What's Up This Weekend?

April has a cruel sense of humor this year
One day it is warm and sunshiny
the next it is cold and wet
The day the snowflakes were flying around
like feathers in a pillow fight
I walked out of the windy chill
into a warm aromatic coffee shop
and instantly experienced a disorienting sensory elation
remembering how wonderful it feels to be
sheltered from the cold cruelty of the world
in a cozy room with the one you love
on the type of wintery day
you were just cursing on the cusp of Spring

Thursday, tonight, Fluid Thought Collective is at Dick's, Couch Forts is at Oldfield's, Jesse Henry and the Royal Tycoons do the happy hour at Rumba, Dr. Kenny Delicious is at Ruby's and Erika Carey and the Calamities are The Treehouse. There is a benefit for the Third Hand Bicycle Co-op with Appalachian picker Larry Keel and Natural Bridge, Megan Palmer and Miss Molly among others.

Friday, The Spikedrivers and Jakob Freely and the Mixtape Bandits are at Skully's. Bop du Fway does a regular set at Dick's and then a Midnight Mass which is not to be missed especially if you are a recovering Catholic.

Saturday, a great new young band, Daycreeper is at Bourbon Street and next door at The Summit its Two Cow Garage and Ghost Shirt. Also, my lovely friends in The Ooh-La-Las celebrate their 5th anniversary of burlesquing at Ruby's with musical guests Apocalypso.

I am the spring, the holy ground,
the endless seed of mystery,
the thorn, the veil, the face of grace,
the brazen image, the thief of sleep,
the ambassador of dreams, the prince of peace.

Easter Lyrics by Patti Smith
